Cracking

Any surface crack with a depth of more than 0.1 m m.

Hydrolysis

Hydrolysis caused by the penetration of water in the liquid or gaseous form, which may occur inside the composite insulator material, can cause electrical and/or mechanical degradation.

Rated mechanical load (SML)

The rated mechanical load is a load specified by the manufacturer to be used in the mechanical test of this standard.

Test load (RTL) one by one

The test load is the load to be applied to all assembled composite insulators during a mechanical test.
